Buckingham Pools Complete SEND project with Tilbury Douglas Construction and AHR

SPECIAL EDUCATION NEEDS AND DISABILITIES PROJECT

In 2018, the Department for Education (DfE) selected Barrs Court Academy Trust to run Herefordshire’s new special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) school to provide the highest quality of teaching and learning.

Buckingham Pools are thrilled to be involved with Tilbury Douglas Construction and AHR Architects Ltd  in the county’s most competitive project within the educational sector. We are pleased to announce that our appointed scheme included a tailor-made 6m x 4m hydrotherapy pool finished with anti-slip tiles to provide SEND students the opportunity to exercise and experience healthy hydrotherapeutic benefits. The steel handrails fitted on all four sides of the pool and ribbed tile finished entry steps ensure easy access and safe usability for all pupils. It incorporates fast filtration, UV disinfection, and a water heating system to maintain regular hygiene and temperatures up to 34°C, to maximise the advantages of hydrotherapy.

Project Manager Dan Harmer at Tilbury Douglas Construction and our direct partner said: “We are ready for the challenge ahead and have made every effort to work with consultants and the supply chain to programme the works, so that we don’t impact the end date for the client”.

With collective perseverance from all parties, we have achieved project completion in the first week of September 2021, now open with a smooth start to the new school year. The finished hydrotherapy pool is a vital part of the college facilities, including a full classroom hoist access, large community hall and multi-use games area.
