our COMPANY HISTORY
J F Buckingham Limited was founded at the turn of the century by John Frederick Buckingham, initially manufacturing light car engines at premises in Coventry. The company later transitioned into developing optical instruments and general presswork and machining. The J F Buckingham offices were based in Kenilworth and boasted a modern building and machine shop. Through progression, the company embarked on several new ventures. The scope of works ranged from metal tape presses and machined aircraft to motor components and tracer bullets, progressing into water tankers in later years.
In the late 1950s, the manufacture of fibreglass pools was evolved within the Buckingham group, which eventually led to the creation of Buckingham Swimming Pools Limited. As a result, the company was one of the founder members of the Association of Swimming Pool Contractors at the time. The first UK manufacturers of fibreglass pools, executed at the moulding factory in Kenilworth, the finished pieces were then transported across the UK and into Europe and beyond.
In the late 1970s, there was significant growth in the UK market for swimming pool facilities. Demands for a greater choice of pools, both in shape and size, were rising, which fibreglass could not offer. In order to service such needs for new installations for both private and commercial use, the business moved forward with the construction of bespoke reinforced concrete pool structures finished in mosaic or ceramic tiles.
Throughout the 1980s and to date, Buckingham Swimming Pools have constructed hundreds of pools for both public and private clients. Pool shells were built under BS8007, employing the proven method of reinforced concrete with the ‘shotcrete’ system. Furthermore, its flexibility allowed us to construct swimming pools from small residential installations to 25m competition-grade pools.

Each project is precision-designed, and technical 3D models are carried out in-house as a matter of course. Using the latest AutoCAD MEP and Revit technology allows for complete project coordination. All technical drawings, including mechanical plant and pipework drawings, are BIM compliant as Buckingham Pools’ minimum standard. Our packages, as such, enable complete spectrum visualisation of the space and other trades.
We deliver comprehensive pool water engineering solutions, including circulation pipework, filtration equipment, heating and ventilation, and complete electrical control installations. We specialise in installing cutting edge water treatment systems from leading manufacturers for long-term benefits. Namely, these incorporate fully automated chemical dosing to monitor and control pool water conditions, on-site chlorine generation facilities, and the latest UV technology. We offer pool hall mechanical services, including ductwork installations and specialist air handling units designed to maintain the pool hall’s heating and ventilation needs.
To elevate your space further, our individually designed heat treatment rooms, including saunas, custom-built and tiled steam rooms, Hammam chambers, heated loungers, salt rooms, experience showers, ice stations, are some excellent choices.
