Buckingham Pools were appointed to work alongside Speller Metcalfe and Watson Batty Architects to Design and Build a comprehensive swimming pool complex. We are delighted to reveal the multi-million-pound leisure centre in Barnstaple, North Devon, which is now officially complete and opened its doors to the local community.

The state-of-the-art facility hosts a competition-grade 25m x 17m eight-lane swimming pool and a 20m x 8.5m four-lane learner pool, both with advanced Inducon moveable floor technology. Whilst energy-efficient, the duo can be adjusted to fixed or descending floor depths with an easy-to-operate control system. 

We have installed both pools with yet another prominent feature, a Poolpod Platform Lift, providing independent access for swimmers who find it challenging to get in and out of the pool. Controlled via a smart electronic wristband makes it effortless and safe to use, whether standing or using the submersible wheelchair. Additionally, the platform can take the user into the pool in just 20 seconds.

These meticulously designed features will allow Tarka Leisure Centre to increase the range of uses and comfort levels to accommodate different needs. Thanks to the latest high-performing, all-inclusive filtration system by Certikin, both pools also benefit from a rapid 3-hour turnover rate.
